    Uma das grandes bandas dos anos 80, Kings Of The Sun está de volta com o lançamento de Rock Till Ya Die, que está rendendo excelentes críticas da imprensa australiana e nesta entrevista exclusiva para o Brasil, o baterista e fundador Clifford Hoad nos contou sobre o retorno, planos da banda para o futuro e a possibilidade de vir tocar no Brasil.

    Aos leitores que não conhecem ou não se recordam da banda o Kings Of The Sun, saibam que seu Hard Rock Australiano conquistou as paradas americanas no final dos anos 80, principalmente com os hits Serpent e Botton Of My Heart e nesta primeira entrevista para o Brasil vocês podem conhecer mais esta brilhante banda, que como esse humilde colaborador está citando: A Lenda Voltou.

Rock On Stage: Como foi o início da banda e quais são suas influências? Como foram os primeiros dias deste novo Kings Of The Sun? Além de perguntar como você diferencia o  Kings Of The Sun e sua outra banda The Rich And Famous?Clifford Hoad: Os primórdios dos Kings Of The Sun foi em Sydney e Melbourne principalmente tocando em clubes e abrindo para bandas como Rose Tattoo, The Angels, INXS etc.....

    Nós viajamos para cima e para baixo na costa leste da Austrália, muitas vezes ao longo de um período de 4 anos. Nosso primeiro single pela Mushroom Records foi Botton Of My Heart e criou um interesse grande o suficiente para a RCA nos EUA financiar o nosso primeiro álbum auto intitulado. Nossas influências foram muitos, sendo Creedence Clearwater Revival, ZZ Top, AC/DC, Johnny Winter, Rory Gallagher e Elvis Presley.

    O Kings Of The Sun foi o nosso primeiro amor e impressão sobre a música, o The Rich And Famous veio mais tarde, um estilo e atitude diferente, que veio com o tempo, com um pouco mais de angústia e som alternativo.

Rock On Stage:  Como foi voltar ao estúdio e gravar esta nova versão e o que você achou que este novo álbum capta a história do Kings Of The Sun?
Clifford Hoad: O retorno de volta ao estúdio tinha dois objetivos importantes. Um recapturar o som clássico do passado e tentar dar a volta a sensação de que tudo o que tínhamos para a música naquela época. Por que nós amamos tanto todos aqueles álbuns de Rock?

    Este foi um grande desafio para obter grandes músicas que fizeram este álbum estar soando de forma que você só queira continuar a tocar mais e mais. O segundo objetivo foi o de me apresentar como o novo vocalista como eu tinha muitas canções dentro de mim, esperando para sair.

Rock On Stage: Voltando aos primórdios dos Kings Of The Sun, acho que seu irmão ( vocalista e também fundador do Kings Of The Sun ) foi convidado para fazer um teste para se tornar vocalista em Mötley Crüe e ele se recusou, o que é muito difícil pensar por quê? Você se lembra da razão?
Clifford Hoad: Sim, eu ouvi isso e Jeff não estava interessado, embora Mötley Crüe era enorme na época. Estávamos no auge e já tínhamos gasto muito tempo e energia para chegar nesse lugar nos Estados Unidos e Jeff tomou a decisão que foi ficar com Kings Of The Sun acreditando em nosso som australiano. Tínhamos também a possibilidade de sucesso, pois contávamos também o mesmo manager da Madonna, Freddy DeMann acreditando em nós.

Rock On Stage: A Austrália sempre nos deu grandes bandas como AC / DC, Airbourne, Midnight Oil e, claro, Kings Of The Sun, mas eu gostaria de saber como  é cenário do Rock na Austrália?
Clifford Hoad: Todas estas grandes bandas e mais outras são um produto do nosso país ser tão longe do resto do mundo pegando influências da Europa dos EUA, esmagando tudo junto e chegando com a nossa própria marca de Rock’n’Roll. Neste sentido, ele cria um estilo diferente, e singularidade e é elogiado por aqui. As bandas são todas boas e bem diferentes, porque elas querem serem notadas.

Rock On Stage: Tinha uma banda na cidade que eu cresci, chamada Perverted, que eu participei do primeiro ensaio e desistindo no segundo. Duas canções que eram obrigatórias em nosso set list eram It’s Hard A Find A Way  do  Accept   e Botton Of My Heart do Kings Of The Sun. Bem, me diga como você vê a importância de se fazer música e espalhar por todo o mundo, influenciando muitas pessoas em todo o mundo?
Clifford Hoad: Eu acho que é ótimo! A música está sempre pedindo de si mesmo.

    Você só pode ouvir uma música uma vez, mas ela vai ficar em você. Se você escrever a música, ela vai sair de você como uma influência, você não tem nenhum controle sobre ela. O estilos são todas as causas tão diferentes como as pessoas, todos nós temos modos diferentes.

     Quando o seu sentimento está para cima e feliz, trás alguns bons Hard Rock, quando você perdeu sua namorada ou um ente querido, que é quando você precisa de uma balada mais lenta com palavras tranquilizadoras, não somos apenas um dimensional, embora às vezes, nós tentamos seja porque é mais fácil gostar de uma coisa.

    O som do Kings tem sido mais influente do que bem-sucedido, o que ainda é um grande elogio para mim, porém com este novo álbum Rock Till Ya Die eu gostaria mais que tudo, que as pessoas gostem de uma determinada canção do álbum ou o álbum ou ainda que o público deve escolher.

Rock On Stage: Na era com Mp3 / Facebook / Internet como você vê o download e porque neste momento poucas pessoas no mundo querem pagar pela música e como imagina Rock Till Ya Die atingirá o mundo inteiro?
Clifford Hoad: Isso não é inteiramente verdade. Acho que os verdadeiros amantes de música vão procurar o cd físico, incluindo arte e letras para a sua coleção de música, dá um bom sentimento pessoal de propriedade de ter algo na sua mão. Se você não precisar do pacote de cd, para olhar enquanto faz sua audição, como todos os meios de hoje para isso, você ainda pode obter uma grande energia a partir de algo, e isso é de graça.

    Estou escrevendo a minha música por causa de algo dentro de mim. Quando eu compartilho isso, eu não estou no controle de como as pessoas vão começar a ouvi-lo, mas eu gostaria de pensar que eu poderia colher algum tipo de recompensa para os meus esforços.

Rock On Stage: O que você conhece da música brasileira?
Clifford Hoad: Eu amo a música brasileira mais que os sons autênticos da bateristas do Brasil. Eu cresci ouvindo um álbum chamado Academia de Capoeira de Angola São Jorge dos Irmãos Unidos do Mestre Caiçara, que eu amei tocar sua bateria durante anos. Eu também gosto muito do trabalho de um sax tenor, o Gato Barbieri, mas eu acho que ele é da Argentina? Eu também adoro Stan Getz que gravou Garota de Ipanema.

Rock On Stage: Qual é a ideia de capa do novo álbum de Rock Til Ya Die?
Clifford Hoad: Uma visão de arte extravagante a la anos 70 representando a banda tocando no deserto de Outback na Austrália com torres de alta voltagem com a necessidade para manter a banda. Como Powerage do AC/DC, o tema de alta tensão é grande em manter os grandes Marshalls em execução.

    No final, a sua sobrecarga e a do local, tudo começa a derreter, muito emocionante, como eu disse antes, esta capa é muito importante para a música que está dentro de estabelecer-se para a sua viagem! O artista Dean Freeze fez um trabalho magnífico trazendo essa fantasia para a vida. Ele a intitulou como Meltdown.

Rock On Stage: Você poderia fornecer um lista com cinco grandes álbuns que você ouviu em sua vida?
Clifford Hoad: Muito difícil para mim porque eu tenho tanta músicas em minha coleção de discos de todos os estilos, e alguns até longe do Rock. Bem vamos a alguns álbuns que eu amo:

Rock On Stage: Como Clifford Hoad é fora de cena Rock, quais são seus hobbies? Que tipo de som costuma ouvir em casa, o que assiste na TV, etc...
Clifford Hoad: Eu amo construir Hot Rods e assistir velhos filmes de faroeste, todos do Clint Eastwood.

Rock On Stage: Alguns planos para vir a América do Sul e, finalmente, podemos ver Kings Of The Sun aqui no Brasil?
Clifford Hoad: Não há nada mais do que eu gostaria mais do que fazer uma turnê e quebrar o pescoço, tocar uma percussão, comida e do Mardi Gras, ei yeeeeah!

Interview Clifford Hoad- Kings Of The Sun

    One of the great bands of the 80s, the Kings Of The Sun is back with new release Rock Till Ya Die! with excellent reviews from the Australian press and this exclusive interview with Brazil talked with the drummer and founder Clifford Hoad who told us about the return the band's plans for the future and the possibility of coming to play in Brazil.

Rock On Stage: How was the beginning of the band and what your influences and how was the first days of this new Kings Of The Sun? In addition to asking how you think the difference between the Kings Of The Sun and Rich and Famous?
Clifford Hoad:  The beginnings of the Kings Of The Sun was spent in Sydney & Melbourne mostly playing clubs and supporting such acts as ROSE TATTOO , THE ANGELS , INXS etc.....

    We toured up & down the East coast of Australia many times over a period of four years. Our first single for Mushroom Records is Bottom Of My Heart created big enough interest for overseas company RCA in the USA to finance our first album self titled. Our influences were many being Creedence Clearwater Revival, ZZ Top, AC/DC, Johnny Winter, Rory Gallagher & Elvis Presly.

    Kings Of The Sun was our first love and impression of music, The Rich & Famous came later a different style and attitude that came with the times, a little more angst & alternative.

Rock On Stage: How was return back to studio and record this new release and what you think this new album captures the history of the Kings Of The Sun?
Clifford Hoad:  The return back to the studio had two important objectives. One to recapture that classic Aussie Rock sound from the past & try to give back the feeling that we all had for music back then. Why do we love all those classic rock albums so much?

    This was a great challenge to get a great sounding album that you just want to keep on playing over & over. The second objective was to introduce myself as the new singer as I had many songs inside me waiting to get out.

Rock On Stage: Returning to the early days of the Kings Of The Sun, I think your brother was invited to do a test fot become a new singer in Mötley Crüe and he refused, which is very difficult to think why? Do you remember the reason?
Clifford Hoad: Yes I heard this & Jeff was not interested, even though Mötley Crüe were huge at the time. We were a new act breaking ground and had spent a lot of time & energy getting to that place in the States & Jeff's decision was to stay with Kings Of The Sun believing in our Australian sound & the possibility of success as we had Madonna's manager Freddy DeMann believing in us.

Rock On Stage: The Australia always give us great bands like AC / DC. Airbourne, Midnight Oil and of course, Kings Of The Sun, but I would like to as how was the Rock scene in Australia?
Clifford Hoad: All these great bands & more are a product of our country being so far away from the rest of the world picking up influences from Europe & the USA, squashing them together & coming up with our own brand of Rock n Roll. In this sense, it creates a different style, and uniqueness is praised over here. The bands are all very different cause they have to be to get noticed.

Rock On Stage: There was a band in town that I grow up, called Perverted, that I participated to the first session, but gave up in the second, and two songs were mandatory in our set list, It's hard to find the way from Accept and the Bottom of my Heart from Kings Of The Sun, How you see doing music and spread the world and influenced many bands around the world?
Clifford Hoad: I think its great. Music is continually borrowing from itself. You may only hear a song once but it will stick in you. If you write music , it will come out of you as an influence, you have no control over it. The styles are all so different cause as people, we all have different moods.

    When your feeling up & happy, yeah bring on some hard rock, when you've lost your girlfriend or a loved one, that's when you need a slow easy ballad with reassuring words, we're not just one dimensional though at times we try to be cause it easier to like one thing.

    The Kings sound has been more influential than successful which is still a great compliment to me however with this new album Rock Til Ya Die, I would love more than anything for people to love a particular song from the album that the public must choose.

Rock On Stage: In the era with Mp3 / Facebook / Internet, How you sees the download, because in this time few people in the world want to pay for music and how it imagines Rock Till Ya Die will reach the whole world?
Clifford Hoad: That isn't entirely true. I find real music lovers will seek that cd out including artwork & lyrics for their collection of much loved music, it gives a good personal feeling of ownership to have something in your hand.

    If you don't need the package of cd, to look at while your listening, by all means go for it, you can still get great energy from something that's for free. I'm writing my music because of something deep inside. When I share it, I'm not in control of how people will get to hear it but I would like to think I could reap some kind of reward for my efforts.

Rock On Stage: What do you know of Brazilian music?
Clifford Hoad: I love Brazilian music more so the authentic sounds of the drummers of Brazil. I grew up listening to an album called Academia de Capoeira de Angola São Jorge dos Irmãos Unidos do Mestre Caiçara, which I have loved drumming to for years. I also have a big love of a tenor sax player Gato Barbieiri, but I think he is from Argentina? I also love Stan Gezwho recorded Garota de Ipanema.

Rock On Stage: What is the idea for cover of the new album Rock Til Ya Die?
Clifford Hoad: Its a 70's fantasy art extravaganza depicting the band playing in the wilderness of Outback Australia piping in the extreme electricity needed to keep the band playing. Like Powerage AC/DC, the high voltage theme is big in keeping the big Marshalls running . In the end , its an overload & the place starts to melt down, pretty exciting, like I said before, this cover is very important to the music that is inside setting you up for its journey ! Artist Dean Freeze did a magnificent job bringing this fantasy to life. He titled it Meltdown!

Rock On Stage: Could you provide a lis with 5 great albums that you hear in your life?
Clifford Hoad: Very hard for me as I have so much music in my record collection of all styles but as far as rock is concerned ??? Albums that I love the most are:

Rock On Stage: How Clifford Hoad f outside from rock scene, what are your hobbies? What kind of sound heard at home, watching on TV etc.
Clifford Hoad: I love building hotrods & watching old Western movies, all the Clint Eastwood´s.

Rock On Stage: Some plans to come to South American and finally we can see Kings Of The Sun here in Brazil?
Clifford Hoad: Nothing I would love more than to tour down in your neck of the woods, take in the drumming, food, & the Mardi Gras, WHOA YEEEEAH !!!
