Entrevista com Billy Graziadei do Biohazard

    De passagem pelo Brasil onde juntamente com o Project 46 e Worst, o Biohazard fez um show animalesco ( confira matéria ) e dez dias após o evento recebemos nossa entrevista exclusiva com o vocalista Billy Graziadei, onde o vocalista nos contou sobre Nova York, o novo álbum Reborn In Defiance, além do show no Brasil.

Rock On Stage: Obrigado por esta entrevista. Bem, o Biohazard teve uma pausa em 2004, até 2008 e eu gostaria de perguntar, como foi esse retorno?
Billy Graziadei: A vida tem muitas reviravoltas que nós não controlamos. Aconteceu que tudo se encaixou na hora certa. Estávamos até bem quando nos separamos em 2003 e eu coloquei toda a minha energia para produzir novas bandas no meu estúdio Firewaerstudios com a minha banda nova Suicide City. Por volta de 2008, eu recebi um telefonema de Danny ( baterista do Biohazard ) e ele me disse que Evan e Bobby jantaram juntos em Manhattan na noite anterior.

    Liguei para Bobby para ver se era verdade e começamos a conversar sobre algumas grandes memórias e que foi o início do caminho que nos trouxe aqui. Todos nós ficamos juntos como amigos primeiro, em seguida, começou a a rolar. Tudo levou a uma turnê mundial, então foi natural para nós para começar a trabalhar em novas músicas .... que se tornou Reborn In Defiance! Acho que isso mostra no álbum o quanto amávamos estar juntos novamente! Nós todos crescemos como artistas, pessoas e músicos. Para mim, ser afastado e trabalhando em outros projetos como Suicide City ou Endrah me ajudou a crescer como vocalista, compositor e como produtor. Eu não mudaria nada do que eu fiz, eu sou tudo o que sou é um produto de minhas experiências passadas, todas enroladas em um cara Hardcore!

Rock On Stage: Quem foi o responsável pela volta do Biohazard e ainda continuarem detonando?
Billy Graziadei: Quando você está longe de algo que você ama com todo o seu coração, você perde mais do que você jamais imaginou. Biohazard corre nas minhas veias e me mantém vivo, uma vida sem a banda para mim é pior que o câncer!

Rock On Stage: Você vai tocar aqui no Brasil, com dois grandes novos nomes de Hardcore Brasileiro, as bandas Worst e Project 46. Você ouviu esta bandas?
Billy Graziadei: Eu tenho amizade com o Fernandão por anos e amo seu jeito de tocar! Tivemos um projeto, o Endrah juntos e eu não quero perder essa banda ( N.E.: o Worst é do Fernando Schaffer ).

Rock On Stage: E como esta a cena Hardcore em Nova York?
Billy Graziadei: Impressionante, a Black and Blue Fest está chegando e é a prova da cena Hardcore em Nova York nunca morreu!

Rock On Stage: Se você recomendaria alguma banda nova de Nova Iorque?
Billy Graziadei: Eu realmente gosto do novo cd do Ninety Six!


Rock On Stage: Reborn in  Defiance é o primeiro lançamento em sete anos, como estava de volta com a banda em estúdio?
Billy Graziadei: É sempre uma sensação incrível. Para mim, uma vida sem música é a morte! Cada dia eu acordo e dar graças por tudo o que eu tenho e congratulo-me com o que me espera. Estou ansioso para voltar em turnê no Brasil e jogar alguns de nossos rippers PIT clássicos, juntamente com algumas novas canções fora de nosso novo cd Reborn In Defiance!

Rock On Stage: E como você vê a indústria musical agora em 2013?
Billy Graziadei: Mais do mesmo, algumas grandes bandas novas, algumas grandes álbuns de alguns álbuns já estabelecidos... Enquanto há momentos difíceis do mundo, sempre haverá uma cena musical underground! Quem precisa de um terapeuta quando você tem Hardcore / Metal / Punk para ajudá-lo a liberar a energia negativa!

Rock On Stage: Vamos falar agora do início de carreira do Biohazard. Hardcore, Punk foram unidos com o Heavy Metal através de bandas como os Ramones e Motörhead, como exemplo, todo mundo ama isso tanto bandas, e o Biohazard foi muito importante nessa união, nos anos 90,  uma vez que todos apreciavam seu cd?
Billy Graziadei: Eu cresci com muitos tipos diferentes de música ao redor, a partir de Run DMC para os Bad Brains, Black Sabbath para Iron Maiden, The Cro-Mags para The Misfits ... e, claro, os Ramones e Motörhead... toda a influência que vem naturalmente na nossa música e tudo o que eu escrever para essa matéria!

Rock On Stage: Como Biohazard via esta situação naquele tempo?
Billy Graziadei: Eu acho que o mundo é melhor quando as pessoas se esforçam para ser original e fazer algo diferente. Quando começamos, não se encaixava no cenário musical. Há tantas influências em nossa música que nós rapidamente se tornamos os "párias"! Eu adorei, não sendo aceito, era normal para mim. Foi engraçado, quando tocamos com bandas de Hardcore, dizem que nós somos também Metal, quando tocamos com bandas de metal, dizem que nós somos também Hardcore, então tocamos em um festival com Cypress Hill ou Red Hot Chilli Pepper .... nós somos os desajustados da indústria da música .... o jeito que eu gosto.

    Eu acho que, no final, nós atraímos pessoas que são semelhantes a nós em muitas maneiras.... nós somos fãs de tantas bandas e estilos diferentes.... as pessoas que são mais de um indivíduo, não são ditadas pelos meios de comunicação sobre o que é legal ou não é legal, essas são as pessoas que gostam de Biohazard. E eu tenho orgulho de chamá-los de amigos!

Rock On Stage: Uma pergunta bizarra, existe algum motivo para a música feita em Nova York ser muito diferente de Los Angeles?
Billy Graziadei: Acabei de desligar o telefone com Andrew do Strife que estava me contando sobre seu novo projeto com o DJ Muggs, Cross My Heart! Eu não sei por que há uma diferença no som, às vezes não consigo dizer a diferença. Como com Strife, que não parecia tão "west coast" para mim... como grandes bandas como Bad Religion ou Pennywise. Assim como um fã de tantas bandas da costa oeste e crescendo em Nova York, talvez seja o fato de que há tempo em Nova York existem muitos bonitos de merda o tempo todo! Pelo menos, é o que se sente ao crescer lá em cima!



Rock On Stage: O que podemos esperar sobre o show aqui no Brasil em algumas semanas? Algo especial em Set List

Rock On Stage: Você já tocaram no Brasil em 1996 no Monsters Of Rock Festival com Mötorhead e Iron Maiden. Você se lembra deste show?
Billy Graziadei: Ohhh yeah, essa merda foi insano. Foi a nossa primeira vez que tocamos no Brasil. Lembro-me de entrar no palco e começar a multidão tão selvagem, que quando Skid Row veio depois de nós, o público jogou tanta merda para eles que tinham que deixar o palco! Sugado para ser naquele dia, mas eu tive uma explosão!

Rock On Stage: Thanks for this interview. Biorazard had a pause in 2004 until 2008 and I would like to ask, how was this return ?
Billy Graziadei: Life takes many twists and turns that we don't control. It just happened that everything fell into place at the right time. We pretty much broke up in 2003 and I put all my energy into producing new bands at my studio Firewaterstudios.com and with my new band Suicide City. Around 2008 I got a call from Danny ( Biohazard drummer ) and he told me that Evan and Bobby had dinner together in Manhattan the night before. I called up Bobby to see if it was true and we started talking about some great memories and that was the beginning of the path that brought us here. We all got together as friends first, hung out then started jamming. It all led to a world tour then it was only natural for us to start working on new music....which became Reborn in Defiance! I think it shows in the album how much we loved being back together again! We all grew as artists, people and musicians. For me, being away and working on other projects like Suicide City or Endrah helped me grow as a vocalist, songwriter and as a producer. I wouldn't change anything I’ve done, I'm all that I am is a product of my past experiences, all rolled up into one Hardcore dude!

Rock On Stage: Who was the reponsable for Biohazard back and still kicking ass?
Billy Graziadei: When you are away from something you love with all of your heart, you miss it more than you ever imagined! Biohazard runs through my veins and keeps me alive, a life without it for me is worse than cancer!


Rock On Stage: You will play here in Brazil with two great new names of Brazilian Hardcore, Worst and Project46, Did you hear this bands?
Billy Graziadei: I’ve been friends with Fernandao for years and love his playing! We had Endrah together and I miss that band a lot!

Rock On Stage: And how was the Hardcore scene in New York?
Billy Graziadei: Awesome, the Black and Blue Fest is coming up and it’s proof the Hardcore scene in NYC never died!

Rock On Stage:Do you recomend some new band from new york?
Billy Graziadei: I really dig the new Ninety Six record!

Rock On Stage: Reborn in Defiance is the first release in 7 years, how was back with the band in studio?
Billy Graziadei: It always feels amazing. For me, a life without music is death! Each day I awake and give thanks for all that I have and I welcome what awaits me. I'm looking forward to going back on tour in Brazil and playing some of our classic PIT rippers along with some new songs off of our new CD Reborn In Defiance!

Rock On Stage: And how you see the musical industry now in 2013?
Billy Graziadei: More of the same, some great new bands, some great albums from some already established albums…As long as there are difficult times in the world, there will always be an underground music scene! Who needs a therapist when you have Hardcore/Metal/Punk to help you release the negative energy!

Rock On Stage: Let's talk now the beginning of you carreir, Hardcore, united Punk and Heavy Metal with Ramones and Motörhead, as example, everyone love this both bands , and Biohazard was very important in your release in 90's once everyone apreciate your cd's?
Billy Graziadei: I grew up with so many different types of music around, from Run DMC to the Bad Brains, Black Sabbath to Iron Maiden, The Cro-Mags to The Misfits… and of course the Ramones and Motörhead...all that influence comes out naturally in our music and everything I write for that matter!

Rock On Stage: How Biohazard see this situation in that time?
Billy Graziadei: I think the world is better when people strive to be original and do something different. When we began, we didn’t fit in with the music scene. There are so many influences in our music that we guickly became the “outcasts”! I loved it, not being accepted was normal for me. It was funny, when we played with Hardcore bands, we were too Metal, when we played with Metal bands, we were too Hardcore, then we’d play a festival with Cypress Hill or Red Hot Chilli Peppers… we were the misfits of the music industry… the way I like it. I think in the end, we attract people who are similar to us in a lot of ways… we’re fans of so many different bands and styles… people who are more of an individual, who aren’t dictated to by the media about what’s cool or not cool, those are the people who like Biohazard. And I’m proud to call them friends!

Rock On Stage: One freak question, exist some reason for the music done in New York be very diferent from L.A.?
Billy Graziadei: I just got off the phone with Andrew from Strife who was telling me about his new project with DJ Muggs, Cross My Heart! I’m not sure why there is a difference in sound, sometimes I can’t tell the difference. Like with Strife, they didn’t sound so “west coast” to me…like great bands like Bad Religion or Pennywise. So as a fan of so many bands from the west coast and growing up in New York, maybe it’s the fact that there weather in New York is pretty much shitty all of the time! At least, that’s what it feels like growing up there!

Rock On Stage: What we can wait about the concert here in Brazil in a few weeks? Something Special in Set List.

Rock On Stage: You already play in Brazil in 1996 at Monsters Of Rock Festival with Motorhead and Iron Maiden. Do you remember that concert?
Billy Graziadei:  Hell yeah, that shit was insane. Our first time we ever played in Brazil. I remember going on stage and getting the crowd so wild that when Skid Row came on after us, the audience threw so much shit at them that they had to leave the stage! Sucked to be them that day but I had a blast!
